Welcome. Welcome back to the Sweet Spot. Today is Wednesday, but not just any Wednesday. Today is win it all Wednesday, and I'm Dr Sweet, I'm your host. For those of you who don't know me, I'm a board certified sports and performance psychiatrist and I've spent years studying what gives elite athletes and elite performers their edge, from the boardroom to the Olympic podium. We've encountered it all. But here's what's exciting these winning principles that we're going to be talking about aren't just for the elite. They're for anyone ready to level up their game. And that's why you're here and that's why this is your spot.
Speaker 1:This week we've been exploring the power of appreciation. On Making Moves, monday, we built the mindset, the appreciation mindset. On Take Action Tuesday, we put that mindset into action. Today we're turning appreciation into your winning edge. Here's something I've noticed in my work with champions when they hit a wall and yes, champions hit walls it's really about their talent, it's about their perspective as winners. They've mastered something I like to call appreciation alchemy Turning every experience, even the bad ones, the tough ones, turning them into gold. That's a kind of appreciation alchemy. It's a skill. Think about it when you're in the heat of competition or facing a major challenge, what's the difference between breaking down or breaking through. It's your ability to appreciate three things, my friend the process, the progress and the people around you.
Speaker 1:I once worked with a really tough-minded athlete who got stuck in the worst slump. What I noticed was that, instead of obsessing over the wins and losses, he started appreciating, with my help, the small victories, little things Like he did well in practice. He had a perfect practice rep, that maybe his teammates were encouraging him and that he was surrounded by support. We even began to appreciate the criticism of the coaches and the media as a challenge to grow. You see how that worked. His mindset started changing because he was focused on appreciation. What happened? He started turning it around and he found a new level of performance that he didn't even know he had in him, that he didn't even know he had in him, just by flipping that switch, paying attention to appreciating what's working and spending time doing more of what was working than worrying and obsessing about what wasn't working.
Speaker 1:So here's your winner's strategy for today. I'll call it the championship cycle. One appreciate the challenge. See every obstacle as an opportunity to prove your power and to prove your strength. Two appreciate your arsenal. Recognize the tools, the skills, the God-given gifts that you already have, and appreciate them. Three appreciate the journey, the process. Each step forward, no matter how small, is a victory for you that's worth celebrating. You know, once you take these three types of appreciation, this championship cycle, and you start working it in your mind, it's amazing how your life shifts, how the universe starts bending in your favor, because you don't have the time for the negativity.
Speaker 1:And so why does this matter? Because winners don't just handle pressure, they appreciate it. Champions don't just accept support, they find a way to multiply it. Leaders don't just achieve goals, they elevate everyone around them. And success isn't just about the destination, it's about who you're becoming along the way. And that's the power, my friend, of appreciation. It's transformative. Imagine just appreciating that you get to do these things, that you get to feel this pressure, and then being able to take it and multiply all of the strengths you have because you appreciate what's inside of you. Wow. So remember this appreciation is more than just gratitude. It's your competitive advantage. When you appreciate the process, you perfect it. Advantage when you appreciate the process, you perfect it. When you appreciate your team, you elevate your team. When you appreciate your journey, you accelerate your journey. That's your Win it All.
