Hey, beautiful souls, welcome, welcome back, welcome back to the sweet spot. Quick question when was the last time you felt truly at peace? Hold that thought. I'm Dr Derek Sweet and you're in the sweet spot. You're in the sweet spot. You're in Slow Down Sunday, and this is where science meets the soul.
Speaker 1:You know, as a board certified sports and performance psychiatrist, I get to meet a lot of very cool and interesting people, and a concept I learned is about a Japanese term called Ma. Ma is essentially a sacred pause between moments, a kind of space that's being appreciated. I like for you to think of this as a space between musical notes that makes a melody beautiful. And here's the cool part our brains are actually wired to need these kinds of pauses. You may or may not realize it, but you appreciate pauses. You really do. They're like a mental space, and it gives the brain a chance to reset, to reset your entire nervous system. So let's try something together right now. Since it's slow down sunday, let's do something slow. I'd like you to take one deep breath with me right now. Go ahead, just inhale in. That's it, that's it, hold it and then let it out through your mouth. That's it, that. Right there, my friend, that was your ma moment, that was your pause, that was your brain getting a mini vacation. It's super important to keep practicing that Quick story. Just yesterday I was rushing, as I'm always rushing between meetings. Everybody that knows me knows I'm going from meeting to meeting, but yesterday I remembered to find my ma moment. I found my ma. 10 seconds of just watching branches and leaves blow in the very windy day that I was in yesterday gave me a chance to reset my entire mind just by pausing and looking at those leaves blow and those branches move. And it's just about 10 seconds and it really worked. Your turn. Where will you find your mom moment today?
