SPEAKER_00Hello, hello, hello. It is finished strong Friday here on the sweet spot, and I'm feeling really good. I've got me a cup of coffee. I'm ready to fly with you, and we're rocking and rolling. I'm Dr. Derek Sweet. I'm a board certified psychiatrist, as you know. More than that, I'm your fellow traveler here on this journey of alignment and inner excellence that we've been taking. This is the sweet spot. The seven alignments is what we've been tackling all week. And this week, episode 5 here on Finish Strong Friday is about aligning with your discipline. Build the structure that supports who you're becoming. Build the structure that supports your becoming. Yes, listen, we've aligned with purpose this week. We've aligned with truth this week. We've aligned with becoming. And now we're aligning with the force that protects your growth. Discipline. Absolutely. Not punishment. Some people think that that's what discipline means. No, not punishment. Discipline, not restriction either, because that's not what discipline is. And discipline, not perfection. Some people confuse discipline with perfection. Discipline is not punishment, it's not restriction, it's not perfection. You know what it is? It's structure. Period. Discipline is about structure. It's the scaffolding that supports your becoming. And on a day like today, especially a day like today, a day that's so brand new, a day that naturally invites self-inventory, discipline becomes a loving act that you can give yourself. And why does discipline matter? Because discipline is how you honor your purpose with action, my friend. Yeah, the author of Inner Excellence, Jim Murphy, puts it this way: Be grateful, stay present, focus on what you can control. Be grateful, stay present, and focus on what you can control. Discipline is not about grinding harder, it's creating a rhythm that helps you become your future self. Remember, we've said this future self is counting on you. Future self is counting on us to make good, disciplined choices. Future self is counting on you to have listened to me here, Dr. Sweet, take you through the seven alignments this week and for you to make the choices and take the disciplined road that will get future you so happy. Remember, we said this yesterday. If you took a dollar and put it aside every single day for the next 10 days, future you got$10 to go do something with. That shifted my entire environment. And now I get to talk to you every day. Now I get to hear from you. Now I'm connected to a universe that I never had before. How cool is that? And here's the thing on the sweet spot, we're about science, soul, and success. Did you know that discipline has a science? And that if you align with it, if you would choose to make this your alignment today on Finish Strong Friday, that you would get the benefit of what discipline does. Here's what it does through a physiological sort of a lens here. Discipline can lure internal conflict. Your brain loves predictability, it loves it. The brain loves to be predictable. And when you're disciplined, you reduce your stress load because you're structured and you're predictable. And discipline can do another thing, it can strengthen your identity. When you follow your own commitments, your own resolutions, your self-trust rises. Your resilience can also be increased by discipline. Consistent routines, whatever they are, strengthens your emotional stability and your ability to bounce back from things. When you have a disciplined routine, sometimes the world can get wobbly and shaky, but it is your it's your discipline that keeps you going. Yeah, discipline is like uh it's alignment made visible. When you see a disciplined person, you know they are aligned. They are aligned. And the message Bible, the ancient wisdom in Proverbs uh 25, verse 28, puts it this way: a person without self-control is like a house with its doors knocked down. A person without self-control is like a house with its doors knocked down. Anyone can enter, anyone can leave, anything kind of goes. In the King James Version, he that hath no rule over his spirit is like a city broken down. Here's what I choose to see from these verses in the ancient wisdom. I choose to see the discipline protects what matters. Right? Because we're talking about a house that has its doors knocked down because of the lack of self-control. We're talking about somebody's spirit sort of being broken down, like a city that's broken down because they have no discipline. Discipline is what protects you. Discipline is not against you, discipline protects you. Going to the gym three times a week is protective. Yeah. So ask yourself today, beautiful souls, what structure, what discipline, what structure does my future self need from me today? This is a great day to ask that question. Don't just promise anything. Ask yourself, what structure does my future self need from me today? You know what? Why don't we do this right now? Let's ask, let's ask future self. Hey, future self, come in here. Hey, future self. What do you need from me? What structure do you need from me today? What choices should I make today that's gonna help you when I get there with you? And let future self answer you. You don't need 10 steps from future self, you don't need a thousand plans, just one thing that you can do today and watch the rest of your year really go well. I want you to commit to one small discipline. One small discipline today that will strengthen who you're becoming. Let it be a practice that you're gonna get into, a boundary that you're gonna draw, a rhythm that you're gonna get. I don't know what it is for you, but just know that when you apply discipline to it, whatever your discipline is, it will strengthen the alignment. And you will be off to the races, and you have so much power because that discipline comes from you. Tomorrow, beautiful souls, tomorrow here on the sweet spot. Oh, tomorrow we're going to shift into another alignment. Yeah, it's self-care Saturday, and we're going to shift into the alignment of aligning with your restoration.
