Introducing Darcell Dillard Sweet
SPEAKER_03All right, greetings and welcome. Welcome everyone. This is the Sweet Spot, and I'm super excited because we're growing up here on the Sweet Spot. Today, we're not going to just hear me talk. We're going to do our very first interview, our very first live interview here with Darcell Dillard Sweet, who happens to be the host of Wisdom on Wednesday, the author of Long Life Short Stories, and my beautiful, adorable, amazing wife. Welcome to the Sweet Spot, Darcell, for your first inaugural interview.
SPEAKER_01Well, thank you so much. I'm glad to be here and thanks for having me. This is a delight.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely. I'm excited. Well, Darcell, we have never done this on The Sweet Spot. For the past three years or so, it's been me just talking on different topics and really interacting with all the beautiful sweet spotters out there. We're in a vibe. We usually pick a topic and we run with it all week, but we're growing up. We're growing up. And there has been a request to start putting guests on the sweet spot. So who better than my beautiful wife, my soulmate, to join me?
SPEAKER_02Well, I appreciate it. I do remember last season we did one special, the two of us, and we talked about love and our relationship. So I'm glad you're now taking this to another level and doing a whole interview series. This is going to be great.
Why Guests And Why Now
Making Moves Monday Defined
What The Sweet Spot Means
SPEAKER_03Absolutely. So Darcell will be joining me all week, everyone. And we're going to run through every day. Today is Making Moves Monday, and welcome. And today I'm going to ask Darcell, what is your take, Darcell, on the sweet spot? What does it mean to you to listen to the sweet spot? And how do you resonate with it?
SPEAKER_02I get the pleasure of watching you work to get this to everyone out there who listens. I also get the pleasure of understanding how important it is to you to give people such value. And the science, the soul, and the success, I vibe with it. I think it's an amazing way for us to educate ourselves through the words that you use, the themes that you give us. So, in a word, I love it.
Movement As A Weekly Trigger
SPEAKER_03Wow, and I didn't pay you to say that. So thank you so much. You know, Darcy, I would love to get a sense from you. When I say making moves Monday, for me, I know exactly what it means. But always curious as to what other people think. Like when I say making moves Monday, and today is making moves Monday, how does that land for you?
Biopsychosocial Motion And Intention
SPEAKER_02The way you put it together, Dr. Sweet, or Derek, because we definitely have a relationship where I can call you Derek, but Dr. Sweet, honestly, making the move means exactly that. We need to be in movement. A lot of us get up, that's movement, go to the bathroom, brush our teeth, that's a movement. We get dressed, that's a movement. So when I think of Monday, it jump starts the week for me. It means I need to be in action. Some days on a Monday, I'm not doing much, but many days on a Monday, it's work. It's me being out there being intentional. It's me sometimes going to tennis or my office and taking care of our staff at Full Circle Health and having meetings. Bottom line, you've themed it making the move. And all across the spectrum of our life, we need to be in motion. Even the biopsychosocial, which you sometimes talk about, if these legs don't move and these arms don't move, we're gonna be in trouble. We need the body to be in action to get us to our intention, to help us action out our purpose. So making a move Monday, it gets me started. It makes me think, what do I need to do today? How am I gonna accomplish it? And my positivity comes out of making that move. So I love that you titled Mondays Making Our Move.
Tough Mondays Happen
SPEAKER_03Well, wow, that's great to hear. And I've watched you over the years, Darcell. I I mean, obviously, I have a ringside seat to watch somebody who I consider the queen of action getting a move on on Mondays. I've seen many Mondays where you have been up and out well before I am even moving. You're a very active woman, a very active individual. I'm wondering, have there have there been days where it's been hard for you to get moving on a Monday? I almost feel like that's impossible because you always seem to be moving. But have you ever had a tough uh Monday?
SPEAKER_02There are several tough Mondays because we live in a world where it dishes out challenges. And sometimes, Dr. Sweet, those challenges land on a Monday. So the answer is yes. What does it look like? A day where I don't want to get out of bed, a day where there's so much to do. I'm not happy about executing some of it because it's not fun stuff. Sometimes these Mondays make you a little drowsy and sad because of the weather. So there are a lot of factors in getting us as humans up and going and staying in the lane of positivity. And because we can't always do that, I am human. There are Mondays where I don't want to do jack, but I push through.
Resilience, Prayer, And Right-Sizing The Day
SPEAKER_03But you push through, which is amazing. And I and I've seen you definitely push through. I mean, I know you as somebody who gets the job done. So my question to you is when you hit a Monday snag, right? You get on a Monday, it's not a high octane day for you. What do you tell yourself or how do you motivate yourself to get the job done, to get moving on a Monday?
SPEAKER_02We absolutely get the opportunity in our relationship to pray. I get a resilience package that a lot of people get when they listen to the sweet spot. I get you every day. So I know how to walk up to your office, knock on that door, and say, babe, I'm having a moment. So some of it is going to my therapist, and that be you, and you help push me out that door. So that's just honest. Everybody listen, that's just the honest truth. But the other part of it is being smart enough to tap into the resilience. And you've talked about resilience, Dr. Sweet. The sweet spot covers all these things that keep us moving. So I'll tap into the resilience, and then here's an honest truth. It may mean taking some things off that plate on that Monday. Instead of doing five things, I'll steady myself to do three. Sometimes we have to be smart enough not to be animalistic, superhuman, powers that we think we have that we cannot zap into the day. You gotta be wise. So yeah, there's tough Mondays, but the resilience factor kicks in, the Dr. Sweet button kicks in, and sometimes the pause and only do a few things button kicks in.
Help For Listeners Feeling Alone
SPEAKER_03Well, I like that. I really like that. I love the idea of just doing a few things and taking stuff off the plate. We talk about that on the sweet spot a lot. Like, what's the next one thing that I can do? Maybe just one thing that I can do today that would make a difference. What's the move I have to make? I have another question for you. What is the message that you would give someone who's listening to this right now and saying, well, I'm not in a relationship, I don't have Dr. Sweet, I don't have tennis to go to in the morning. I heard you mention that, or I don't have these things. How life is hard, and sometimes we're facing millions of things coming at us at once, and we don't always feel like we have the resources. How would you, what what message would you give to someone out there who's having a really tough Monday and doesn't feel like they have anyone or anything to hang on or hold on to to motivate them? What's the Darcell Dillard Suite message?
Permission To Pause Or Push
Self-Love As The First Move
SPEAKER_02I believe that no matter how alone we feel in this world, God, whoever you believe in, puts people in your path, puts resources in your path. So maybe for the person listening who doesn't have the kind of connectedness that you and I have, that we can push each other out that door, they can take something off their plate. They can remember, wait, do I really need to do this today? And guess what? It may sometimes mean just taking the day off. So to that person who's feeling paralyzed, listen to your body, listen to your mind, listen to your spirit. Slow down sometimes means you make a decision not to go. There are people during 9-11, remember that horrible time in our world, who had an inkling not to get on that bus, who had an inkling not to get on the train, who decide to stay home with their kids and their lives were saved, but they had an inkling, they had some premonition, they had some thought. Do I really want to do this today? We're allowed to say that. So, my wisdom for those out there who are listening who don't have it, don't kick yourself. If you have the resilience to push through, go ahead and try. If you have a tribe to call up, someone that you really vibe with, call them up. Hey, need a little push today, sister friend or brother friend or pastor friend or coach. Some of us do have somebody, but for those out there I want to be sensitive to, who feel that aloneness, who do not have, they just don't have a go-to. That's when you pause, steady yourself. Maybe it's a Bible, maybe it's Torah, maybe it's the Quran, maybe it's reading one of those incredible self-help books or a quote from the internet. Hey, we scroll all day long. We might get that one scroll on TikTok or Instagram that gets us out the door. You might see that one person who tells you in their post that day, get up and go, baby doll, get up and go. So, whatever it is, listen to it. And if you don't want to do it, get back in bed and try it again another day.
Closing And Weeklong Preview
SPEAKER_03I really like that. That is so practical, and that's why I love you, and that's why we're married. And I get to, let me just be clear, I get to talk to you every day, and you are definitely my coach. And I felt like that was some great coaching. Like, yeah, find a way, find a way. First of all, what I liked is that you said take the pause, relax. If it's not a great day, maybe step back, let the universe speak to you, and maybe this is not the day to head out and do something. And if you don't have somebody there, maybe it's a Bible verse, maybe it's uh a stoic quote, maybe it's looking on TikTok, Instagram, wherever you you find a moment of distraction, and that message of inspiration can come to you. I love it. We both love God. We're on the Christian side of things, so we're always in that realm of thinking that something will always communicate to you. Another way of saying it is that the universe is always speaking and that there's love around. And sometimes what I like to say, Darcell, is you gotta wake up and love yourself. Like you got to look in the mirror and be able to say, hey, I love you. Wake up in the morning and speak to yourself. And sometimes that's the move. The move is to pour that love back onto you.
SPEAKER_00You're so right about that. Loving self is a motivator.
SPEAKER_03Understood. Well, Darcell, we have come to the end, regrettably, of today's Making Moves Monday. And I'm excited. I feel so good. I'm not the one doing all the talking today, and this feels amazing to me. So thank you for joining us and for launching our interview series here on Making Moves Monday. I have a challenge and a request for you. What's that? Would you be willing to do the entire week and come back tomorrow for Take Action Tuesday and give us more of your wisdom? I would love to. Thank you for the wonderful honor. Well, absolutely. Well, gang, sweet spotters, sweet wise ones, we are going to be blessed all week long by having the wonderful, the amazing, and the extraordinary Darcell Dillard Sweet, the queen of wisdom on Wednesdays, with us all week long. I'll see you tomorrow, Darcell. Thank you so much. We will rock and roll tomorrow for Take Action Tuesday.
SPEAKER_01Thank you.
SPEAKER_03Bye bye.
SPEAKER_02Take care.
