Science Soul Success

We paint a familiar scene of showing up, nailing the moment, and still hearing “rejected.” We argue that learning how to fail is the path to getting better, gaining experience, and performing with more courage next time.

Suite Spots:
• the emotional hit of rejection after a strong performance
• reframing failure as training for long-term success
• learning how to fail so you can succeed better
• using honest self-review instead of self-blame
• asking for feedback and extracting lessons from mistakes
• letting mistakes motivate you to improve and try again

The Rejection After Nailing It

SPEAKER_01

The alarm goes off. It's another day. You sit up, you open your window, you look out, and you know you've got to go do this. You've got to get out into the big world. You gotta get on that bus, ride that train, get on that bike, whatever it is that you do, however, you've got to get there, you find a way to get there. It's audition time. You are up next. You get on the stage and you give them everything you got. You truly nail it. Only to find out that you've been rejected. They don't pick you. They say next and they move on. And everything you work for comes crumbling down right in front of you. You failed again. You did not get the part. You did not make the cut. Maybe it's how you look. Maybe it's something you said. Maybe it's the way you move around. Maybe it's just not for you. Maybe, maybe, maybe it's just not your time.

Why Failing Leads To Success

SPEAKER_01

But get this. If you are going to succeed, you will need to understand that failure and failing over and over again is the path. This is how you get the next part is to fail. It's to learn how to fail. Learning how to fail, to fall down, to mess up is learning how to succeed better.

Use Feedback To Improve

SPEAKER_01

The more you fail, the better you get. If you are brave and courageous enough to look at your failures, look in the mirror, figure out what you're doing wrong, ask other people for feedback, and definitively get what you need to get out of every mistake. Every fall makes you better. Experience will make you better, and experience comes from falling down from making mistakes. So don't let your mistakes hold you back. Let your mistakes motivate you. Learn and get better, and go get champ.
