When A Challenge Takes Your Breath

SPEAKER_01

Stay tuned for Dr. Sweet's Take Action Tuesday.

SPEAKER_00

Have you ever looked at a challenge that was so big that it took your breath away? An obstacle in front of you that seemed impossible, ridiculously hard, difficult, and overwhelming to get over. We've all been there, staring up at the mountain in front of us, wondering how am I ever gonna get past this one? Will I make it? Can I do it? From where you stand at the beginning, it always looks so tough when these mountains appear. How steep is this thing? How far up does it go? How hard, how difficult, how challenging is this gonna be for me? Why now? How are we gonna get this thing done? But let me tell you something.

The View From The Top

SPEAKER_00

Mountain climbers know certain kinds of truths, and one truth that they know is this you never truly know how high a mountain is until you reach the top. Think about that for a moment, let that sink in. You never know how high it is from the bottom. You cannot know that. It's only when you climb and get to the top of the mountain that you understand that this mountain was not as big as it looked from the bottom. Because, look, when we're at the bottom of the mountain looking up, our minds are often exaggerating the difficulty as we strain our necks up to look at this thing. It looks so huge. We can't possibly see the whole journey from where we stand, and it feels overwhelming. It's only after we've climbed, pushed through, and reached that high point that we gain the full perspective of what we're actually facing. And this is something that we as human beings we all experience this. When we finally overcome a challenge, when we finally take it on, and we get past it and we are on top of it, we often look back and think, hey,

Why You Get Stronger Mid Climb

SPEAKER_00

that wasn't quite as impossible as I first thought, man. Wow, that I got through this. It's not as big as it looked. Look, this is not because the challenge got smaller, by no means. But you became stronger as you tackled it, as you climbed it, as you put one foot in front of the other and you clawed and grasped and tried whatever you had to to climb this mountain and you kept moving forward one step at a time. The courage that you showed to get through this, the courage that you're showing right now as you're climbing whatever mountain is facing you right now, that courage that got you this far will keep you pushing ahead. It will get you to the top. And when we finally overcome and look back, everything changes. We start seeing things from a new angle, and that new angle tells us that look, the challenge is not bigger

The Mountain Is Not Bigger Than You

SPEAKER_00

than me. The mountain is not bigger than my determination, the mountain is not bigger than my faith, the mountain is not bigger than my trust in God. The mountain is not larger than me. Period. And you know what? Mountain climbers also know? They know that in the end, it's not the mountain we conquer, it's ourselves. We are the mountain we're climbing. You are the mountain. And you can do this. We all can.
