Hey, beautiful souls, welcome, Welcome to Self-Care Saturday, on the Sweet Spot where science meets the soul. I'm Dr Derek Sweet and, for those of you who don't know me, I'm a board-certified sports and performance psychiatrist, and today we're diving into something that has the power to transform your life. That's the art of appreciation, which we've been delving into all week. You know, in my years of practice I've noticed something fascinating those who master the art of appreciation aren't just happier people, they're more resilient people, they're really able to bounce back faster, they're usually more successful and, most importantly, they're more fulfilled. They're just generally content individuals.
Speaker 1:But here's the thing about appreciation it's not just about saying thank you, it's about developing what I call an appreciation awareness Training your mind to notice the extraordinary in the ordinary, to pick up the subtleties in little things and see the magnificence in them. That's what I'm talking about. Let me share something simple but powerful. I call it the 3-3-3 appreciation ritual that I practice with my clients. I challenge them for three times a day, take three deep breaths and notice three things you appreciate in that moment. It could be anything. It could be something as simple as the comfort of your favorite chair, or as profound as the love of your family. The key is to really feel the appreciation and let it wash over your mind. And let it wash over your mind.
Speaker 1:You see, when we combine appreciation with an intentional self-care, something magical happens. We create what I call a wellness loop. The more we appreciate, the better we feel. It's a crazy cycle. The brain seems to have a loop that enjoys appreciating things to help it feel better. And the better we feel, the more we notice we appreciate. It's so crazy how that works. And remember this self-care is never selfish. In fact, it's sacred. In fact, it's sacred. When we take the time to appreciate ourselves and our journey, we build the emotional muscle, the emotional resilience needed to show up fully for everybody else.
Speaker 1:So this week, give yourself permission to slow down, to notice, to appreciate your mental health. Your brain will thank you, your body will thank you and your soul will thank you All right now. If this resonates with you, I would love to hear about your appreciation journey. Connect with me on LinkedIn, x, maybe even Instagram, where I am there too, and also subscribe to me oh yeah, on my YouTube channel at Derek Sweet. Share your stories, because when we share, we all grow, and I would love to tell your story, your appreciation story. So for today, I appreciate you, for today I love you and for today I care about you. For today, I love you and for today I care about you. This is Dr Derek Sweet and you've been in the sweet spot where science meets the soul, and until next time I want you to keep appreciating, keep growing and, most importantly, here on Self-Care Saturday, keep taking care of you. Love and blessings.
