Speaker 1:

Greetings, beautiful souls, greetings my friends, welcome, welcome to the sweet spot. Today is Making Moves Monday on the sweet spot, and I'm Dr Derek Sweet. For those of you who don't know me, I'm a board-certified psychiatrist. I specialize in sports and high performance. It's an honor to journey with you as we explore how to win this week at the level of the mind, body and spirit. So let's dive right into our Making Moves Monday plan and we're calling this week you're going to love this one Three for the Win. Yes, it's our Three for the Win series. So today's all about making three moves on Making Moves Monday that will help you win the day. And every day this week, we're going to think of three things that are going to help us win. So let's dive right in.

Speaker 1:

As the wise poet Rumi once said, when you start to walk on the way, the way appears, but you've got to start walking on the way for it to appear. That's really cool. So with that in mind, with this deep quote in mind, let's make those first moves count. So what are the three moves you can make today? And I'd like to break the moves down each day this week in a mind, body and spirit. For simplicity, we're talking about three and you know the number three is a very important number. It's a number that is important, that the mind, the body, the spirit right. We have a beginning, a middle and an end, so there's so many ways in which three is an important number. It's also a prime number, meaning it can be divided by itself in one or something like that in math. So there's a lot here to take in with this number three. So let us just focus on my body and spirit today, and the first thing we're going to do with our mind is to start with clarity, clearing up our mind, taking five minutes this morning or this day, whenever you're listening to this, to write down or jot down or type into your phone your top three priorities for today. Take a minute and just type it in or write it down.

Speaker 1:

Science shows that when we clear our minds by writing our goals, our brain tends to filter out the distractions and focus us on what matters most. There's a particular part of the brain called the reticular activating system, the RAS, and it's like your brain's personal assistant. I want you to let your RAS, your reticular activating system, help you win today. Jot down those three things and see how your brain automatically goes, working on it. The second thing you can do is to move your body intentionally. Whether it's a brisk walk, a yoga session, maybe you just have time to stretch at your desk, maybe you just have time to stretch at your desk Any physical movement you can do for a few minutes will trigger the release, physiologically, of endorphins, those feel-good hormones that increase your energy, your motivation and your ability to feel good. Research shows and highlights that consistent movement at any level, with a degree of repetitiveness and consistency, will enhance something called neuroplasticity, which is basically your brain's ability to adapt and grow, and so your brain never stops growing, and movement is the key All right now.

Speaker 1:

So we already spoke about one. The first thing, for the mind, was that we were going to clear it by writing down three priorities. The second thing was we're going to make some kind of movement, a consistent movement, happen. And let's do the third thing we're doing mind, body, spirit. Remember, this is three for the win.

Speaker 1:

So for the spirit, I want you to practice and embrace gratitude. It's the simplest thing Taking a moment to pause and reflect on one thing that you're grateful for today, anything. Just think about it. You've got to be grateful for something. And now I'm just asking you to take that moment, take a breath and just allow your spirit to say thank you. It could be for a person, it could be for a place, a thing, a memory. You know, in the scriptures first Thessalonians 5, 18, it says give thanks in everything, give thanks in all circumstances. So let gratitude align with your spirit in abundance today, in positivity today, and even if you're not that deeply spiritual, there's a benefit to being steeped in gratitude. Did you know that gratitude can actually rewire your brain and help boost your mental health and resilience, according to science? So there's a lot of reasons to practice gratitude. So there you have it, my friends.

Speaker 1:

We have done three for the win on Making Moves Monday. The three moves that you're going to make clarity for your mind by writing down your priorities Just one, two or three of them. Movement for your body, just a stretch, or to do some movement for a few minutes. And then three gratitude for your spirit. Now, these three moves can create momentum and energy that will carry you throughout the day. Okay now, beautiful souls, remember every step you take matters today. So start small, stay focused and trust this process and you will be making moves that help you win.
