Hello, beautiful souls, welcome, welcome to the sweet spot where science meets soul Today. Today is slow down Sunday, and I'm Dr Derek Sweet. For those of you who don't know me, I'm a board-certified psychiatrist and I specialize in sports and high performance. So, as you know, all week we've been doing a series called Three for the Win Three actions that you could take each day. That gets you on the winning side.
Speaker 1:We find ourselves in Slow Down Sunday, the perfect moment to reflect, breathe and connect with something greater than ourselves. And in keeping with our theme of Three for the Win, let's explore now three cosmic practices to help you slow down and align your mind, body and spirit. So, as Carl Sagan once said, the cosmos is within us. We are made of star stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself. Wow, the cosmos is within us. We are made of star stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself. Holy cow, that's so amazing. All right, let's tap into that profound connection today. So here are three cosmic practices to help you realign and find your flow. This is three for the win, remember. So we're going to hit the mind, the body and the spirit right now.
Speaker 1:What can you do for the mind. The first thing is to expand your perspective. The first thing is to expand your perspective. Take a moment to gaze at the sky tonight, or maybe the sunrise, or even a simple candle flame. Just stare into those kinds of things today, if you can, and you will tap into a part of the brain that loves to be titillated by experiencing awe. You know, research in psychology shows that experiencing awe a deep emotional response to something vast or greater than ourselves actually reduces stress and fosters clarity. So let yourself feel small in the most empowering way, as part of something grand and infinite, today. No-transcript. So that's the first thing.
Speaker 1:The second one is the body, and your challenge is to sync with the natural rhythm. Your body is deeply connected to the cycles of nature. The rising and setting of the sun actually affect your sleep-wake cycle. That's a whole other series. The ebb and flow of the tides also affects our biorhythms. Did you know that studies in chronobiology actually highlight how aligning with these rhythms can improve energy and well-being, even what we eat and how we sleep? It's amazing, it's amazing. So today I want you to honor your body by stepping outside, grounding your feet to earth, if that's possible where you are, or if you can't do that, simply by slowing down to listen to the cadence of your own breathing. So that's how you're going to sync your body with its natural rhythm All right now.
Speaker 1:So we've done two of the three for the win. The first thing was the mind, where we said we're going to expand your perspective and you're going to gaze at the night sky, you're going to gaze at the sunrise, you're going to look at the big sky and you're going to feel that sense of awe. That was the first part. That was the mind. And then, with the body, we talked about syncing with the natural rhythm. We talked about just sort of stepping outside and connecting your feet to the earth or listening to your breath. And now we find ourselves ready to handle the third part of our three for the win approach. And that's doing something for the spirit. Because, remember, we're looking at the three for the win mind, body and spirit.
Speaker 1:So, in the spirit, I'm going to ask you to reflect on your place in the universe. Reflect on your place in the universe. What's your place? You know the scriptures. It says to everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven. That's just scriptural wisdom in Ecclesiastes 3.1. Take a few moments, my friend, to meditate on the idea that you are exactly where you're meant to be, even if it's a bit uncomfortable right now. Once you connect to your sense of purpose, you connect to your beingness, your spirit, that which is within you that's greater than what's in the world, will remind you of the divine power that's in you today. Wow. So there you have it. There you have it.
Speaker 1:Three for the win on Slowdown Sunday, as we conclude this week One awe for your mind, two rhythm for your body. And three reflection for your spirit, these cosmic practices. They will remind you that slowing down isn't just a pause. It's a way for you to reconnect with the universe, the God-given universe that's within you and around you. Beautiful souls, as we close out this three for the win series, I want you to remember that you are a part of something vast. I want you to remember that you are a part of something vast, extraordinary and deeply meaningful, and we're here just for a time, so make it count. Smile All right now.
