Contagious Courage 7/7: Sometimes the Fastest Way to Get There is to Slow Down
Stardust and stillness—two forces that might seem unrelated but form the foundation of our courage.
The atoms in your body, from the iron in your blood to the calcium in your bones, were forged in ancient stars that exploded billions of years ago.
Before you ever faced fear or anxiety, you were created from remnants of things that died already shining. This isn't just poetry—it's physics.
Through this cosmic lens, Dr. Derek Suite explores how courage and slowness aren't contradictions but complementary strengths.
The universe itself operates through expansion, contraction, silence, and fire. When we recognize this rhythm, we understand that stillness isn't weakness—often, it's the most courageous act available to us
. "Sometimes the fastest way to get where you're going is to slow down," Dr. Suite reminds us, echoing ancient wisdom from spiritual traditions that science confirms.
Our brains require stillness to rewire, our hearts need rhythm to reset. In a world that celebrates constant motion, taking 10 minutes of silence represents a revolutionary act of courage.
When you slow down and breathe, you participate in the resurrection available each moment.

Welcome back, beautiful souls. It is Slow Down Sunday. Wow. We have been doing an entire week on contagious courage and we've come to the point where we are in a Slow Down Sunday mode. And I'm Dr Derek Sweet, I'm your host, I'm your guide, I'm a board certified psychiatrist, I have some experience and expertise in working with high performance and I know something about the value of recovery, the value of resetting and the value of rest. And in slow down Sunday, sunday, as we bring it all together, we're gonna take a cosmic look at how courage and being slow are not weaknesses but our strengths, so that sometimes what happens is that we've got to understand that courage isn't just an emotion. It's part of creation.
Speaker 1:So astrophysicists tell us that the very atoms in your body, the iron in your blood, the calcium in your bones, they were forged in the heart of ancient stars that exploded billions of years ago. How marvelous is that. The word says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Wow, the notion that a star can explode billions of years ago and supply the iron, can explode billions of years ago and supply the iron, the calcium, the phosphorus, all of the elements that are flowing in my body and your body. That's amazing. You know what that means. It means that before you ever faced fear, before you ever knew what pain or pressure or anxiety was, you ever knew what pain or pressure or anxiety was, you and I were made from remnants of things that died already shining. Wow, that's not just poetry, that's physics. I'm talking to you right now. That's science. You were born from courage and the same universe that birthed you has a rhythm Expansion, contraction, silence and fire. If you had to capture the universe and explain it, this universe of which we're a part, undeniable that we're in a universe, it works on expansion, contraction, silence and fire. You see, you don't have to be in motion to be in power.
Speaker 1:Sometimes stillness is the most courageous act of all. Sometimes the fastest way to get where you're going is to slow down. The ancients understood this when the Psalmist said Be still and know I am God. Be still. You know how hard that is in today's world. That's the first issue. We're not even slowing down enough to be able to contemplate our existence, to contemplate the divine, to be able to contemplate our existence, to contemplate the divine and the Tao it says, the soft overcome the hard and the still overcome the restless. And science confirms all of this. Our brains, our brains need stillness in order to rewire Our heart. Our hearts need a rhythm to reset. Courage doesn't always roar, my friend. Sometimes it just whispers. Rest, trust, expand Universal principles that work.
Speaker 1:So what's your move today, on Slow Down Sunday? How will you make your courage contagious? Step outside, look at the big sky and remember where you came from. You were born of the stars. You were made to shine through the darkness. You've been fearfully and wonderfully made. Every hair on your head, every molecule in your body accounted for. Be still, be still. Take ten minutes, ten minutes of silence, and let the universe remind you that courage lives in you. And, as the ancient wisdom has said, greater is the power in you than any power in this world. You are made of stardust and spirit. You slow down today, you take the deep breath and you rise again. There's something of a resurrection in each moment, isn't there? Resurrection in each moment isn't there when you slow down, when you get still, when you recover, when you breathe in and breathe out.
