Speaker 1:

Hey, beautiful soul, welcome, welcome back. Welcome back to Making Moves Monday here on the Sweet Spot. I'm Dr Derek Sweet, I'm your host and I'm excited, I'm super excited, to be here with you again this week, to go on yet another journey with you. How cool is that? Oh, my goodness. I hope you've had a good weekend and that you're ready to face the week. And even if you did not have a good weekend, listening to the Sweet Spot will help your brain reorganize itself and retool itself so that you can surf the waves that you are facing this week. So, as a board-certified psychiatrist, a high-performance coach, I sit with individuals every single day to figure out how can we get the best out of life, how can I be the best version of myself, how can I navigate a situation that's in front of me and still be whole, still be me, and guess what? This is the life that all of us are charged to live figuring it out. And this week we're not just talking motivation, we're talking marination. Yes, marination, I said it. We're kicking off a seven-part series called the Secret Sauce. Wow, the Secret Sauce. I got it from my wife, darcelle, who said that she would like to hear me talk about the Secret Sauce and I at first didn't know what she was talking about, but as I grew more interested and I began to research and learn a little bit more about this, I understood it. The secret sauce is absolutely a wonderful thing we should look at this week, and this seven-part series is going to definitely get us stirring. So get this. You've heard the line juice. You got the juice. But you know what? Juice is temporary, it's the sauce. It's the sauce. That's forever. Juice is the hype. Juice is when you're in the spotlight. Okay so you've got the hot car. That's the juice. Okay, so you're trending. That's the juice. Okay, so you're popular right now. That's the juice. Juice is hype, it's the trends, it's the applause and it's the moment. The sauce. The sauce is the recipe and that's what we're going after this week.

Speaker 1:

The sauce is the recipe. It's your soul, it's your soul, it's your scars, it's your skills and it's your spiritual signature, all stirring together under pressure, and that's what gives us the recipe for who you are. It's called sauce S-A-U-C-E, and I have a little acronym for you. I hope you have a pen. You may want to write this down. So the S stands for self-awareness, the A for alignment that's really aligning your purpose and your identity. The U, in the source, is for your unapologetic expression, the full expression of who you really are, and the C is for your consistency, that discipline you're going to bring and that you've always been bringing to situations. And the E is for energy, your focus, your faith and your fire. So that's the whole idea of the sauce. Those are some of the secret ingredients Self-awareness, alignment, unapologetic expression, consistency and energy.

Speaker 1:

All week long we're going to be unlocking your ingredients and today we're going to start where every real recipe for the secret sauce begins. After all, this is Making Moves Monday, so we should start with the first ingredient. So let's be honest, you can't stir the pot if you're scared to turn on the fire Right. Courage has to be your first move, not clarity, not confidence, not perfection. Courage is what opens the kitchen here, and let's break this down from a scientific perspective.

Speaker 1:

Courage begins in a part of your brain called the limbic system, the part of your brain responsible for processing emotions and risk. When you face fear or uncertainty, when you decide I'm going to do this. Your amygdala yes, I know, I've said this a thousand times the amygdala is the threat detection center of your brain, that amygdala of yours lights up to warn you, and that's normal because it's supposed to let you know, hey, there might be a danger. But when you decide to override that and act anyway, another part of your brain, the ACC, the anterior cingulate cortex, steps in to help you regulate this conflict, tolerate ambiguity and maintain the emotional control that you need. So the amygdala, which is that fear center, it's going to do its job. It's going to flash a light and say, hey, don't do this. But when you take a deep breath, you square your shoulders and you become courageous and you say I'm going to do it. The way we are designed is that there's another part of that brain, that ACC, that anterior cingulate cortex, is going to help you. And, even more importantly than that, you remember the prefrontal cortex we talked about that. That's the brain's CEO, that's the executive functioning zone of your brain which is going to really help you, strengthen your ability to plan, your ability to override your fear response and regulate your brain and your behavior over time. That's what they call neuroplasticity, all these brain regions working together.

Speaker 1:

When you decide to not move only in fear, when you decide that you're going to override your fear, face your fear, feel your fear and do it anyway. Your brain rewires itself to support your boldness and your brain gets stronger and stronger every time you take that action. Even if your knees are shaking, even if you feel a little shaky in your voice, even if you didn't quite get it, your brain is seeing your movement, it's making moves. Monday, you're making a move and it's building courage because it's building neural pathways, new pathways for you, so that you can be stronger every time you do it. That's why you get stronger every time you face it.

Speaker 1:

Courage isn't born. It's built One act, one movement at a time. You know, tupac once said I'm not saying I'm going to change the world, but I guarantee that I will spark the brain that will change the world. Wow, he didn't wait for certainty. He moved with the spark he had. You know what that spark was Courage and you know what that is the sauce. Listen, ancient wisdom always backs us up. Ancient wisdom is backing Tupac right now.

Speaker 1:

In Joshua 1.9, it says it this way. In Joshua 1.9, it says it this way Be strong and courageous, don't be afraid, for the Lord, your God will be with you wherever you go. Yet another divine spark. Courage doesn't require proof. It requires presence, god's presence and your presence. You got to show up. You can't stay in the corner and just pray. You plus God, plus movement here on Making Moves Monday is the secret sauce. Take one step, do not be afraid, be strong, be courageous. Find your spark, for God, the Lord, your God, will be with you wherever you go. Courage is not about proof. You don't need proof, you need his presence Bong bong, as they say, all right now. So courage is the spark and the sauce is what's going to simmer that spark.

Speaker 1:

Don't wait for clarity. Don't wait for clarity, don't wait for proof. Get moving until clarity and proof find you. Fear might shout and make a loud noise. Faith just whispers and the sauce listens to the whisper. You don't need to feel ready, you just need to act with confidence and courage. That's why sometimes they say sing if you feel afraid. That's why sometimes they say take one step forward if you feel afraid, take a deep breath, square your shoulders and get moving.

Speaker 1:

What's one move you've been sitting on all week out of fear. Or maybe you've been sitting all your life not doing something out of fear. Maybe you're being overly perfectionistic or you're overthinking. I want you to take a step back, take a deep breath and make a move today in the direction with courage. It doesn't matter if your hands are shaking, doesn't matter if you feel a little bit off, like you're a bit worried. Courage counts. Even when it's quiet, even when, when it's shaky, it's still courage. So carry this with you.

Speaker 1:

Every recipe starts with fire and that fire is your divine spark in you. It's your courage. Every move has to start with you. It's not good enough just to pray and wait and pray and wait. Faith without works is dead, right? So every recipe starts with a fire, right, you've got to move, and this week we're building your sauce. We're building your sauce and it starts right here, with one bold step and with your understanding that your sauce is tied into what your self-awareness. You're getting aligned with your purpose and your identity, your unapologetic expression of who you are. Stop being afraid to be you and being consistent. Don't half step once you start, keep going and the e is for energy. Bring your focus and your faith and your fire to whatever you're going to do today, and that's your sauce.

Speaker 1:

Okay, now I'm Dr Derek Sweet. Thank you so much for listening to the Sweet Spot. Thank you for joining us here on Making Moves Monday. Yes, indeed, we're looking at the sauce, we're looking at the secret sauce and we're going to stir the pot all week long. So today, your first ingredient courage.

Speaker 1:

I want you to figure out where do you feel some anxiety, some hesitation, some fear, and I want you to do something anyway. Start letting your amygdala, your anterior cingulate gyrus and your prefrontal cortex rewire themselves. Walk with the ancient wisdom in you, do not be afraid. You have the greatest power in the world with you. You have the divine the most high with you. Oh, boy. And tomorrow. Tomorrow is Take Action. Tuesday. We will bring the fire and the follow through. Tomorrow, let's stir that sauce together. Love and blessings. Dr Sweet, I'll see you Now.
