Reverse Planning From The End
Execute Now And Refine Later
SPEAKER_00Well, today's topic is about planning. Planning is important. It's really critical that we have some idea of what we want to do and some roadmap that we're going to use to get there. Now, planning, while important, should not consume us. We never want to be in a position where we're waiting for the perfect plan to come together before we take action. In the scheme of life, getting things done is about action. Action is king. I'll say that again. In the scheme of life, getting what we want is about action, and action is king. So let me tell you briefly how we coach individuals around getting something done. Actually, we don't start from the very beginning of what they want, we start with the end point. What do you want in the next five years? Once you're able to answer that question, the question then becomes what can I do within this next year to achieve that goal? Once you have that answer, the next question is then what can I do within the next three months or so to achieve my one-year goal? Once you have that answer, then ask yourself, what can I achieve within the next month to get to my three-month goal, and so on. You may want to even go down to well, what can I do within the next two weeks to get to my one-month goal, and what can I do within the next week to get to my two-week goal, and so on and so forth, until you get right down to the day. The bottom line is that you must take action once you have a sense of what it is that you want to do, and then don't sweat the small stuff. Work on one aspect of the plan at a time. There is a saying that General Patent once uh made famous, and the saying is that you cannot execute a plan next week and think that you're gonna get anything done. Basically, a poor plan violently executed right now is still better than a perfect plan that has never happened. Take action today and take one small step forward. This is Dr. Sweet. I'll be back with you next week.
