Win It All Wednesday Welcome

SPEAKER_01

Greetings and welcome. Welcome back to the sweet spot. It is Win It All Wednesday, and we never just say Wednesday here on the sweet spot. We call it Win It All Wednesday because KG. Winning, we believe, started well before we even got here as a body, a biological entity talking to each other. In the sweet spot view, the fact that we're human and we're alive, we already won the race. We won the sperm egg race. We figured out how to get here, and whether we were in charge of that or not, we're winners. And I want to congratulate everyone that's listening because you're a winner today. No matter how you feel, if you're hearing my voice, if you're hearing the sweet spot, if you're here, you've already won. And I want you to take on that identity because it's so important to us at the sweet spot that we walk in the identity of a winner so that our actions and whatever we take and whatever comes our way is seen through this prism that allows us options to have bigger, bigger, and much better turnout in anything that we do. So you're a winner, I'm a winner. And the reason I can tell you that is that we're sitting here with Kendall Glassby. This is an opportunity. This is an opportunity for me to sit with my guy, which I haven't sat with in a long time, who I haven't sat with in a long time, and for you to hear his thoughts on

Learning To Lose Like A Winner

SPEAKER_01

how we win. What does it take to win? And you know, Ken, before I jump into the winning, I want to say this. I work in sports a lot, and I think something that isn't said enough is that you gotta know how to lose too. You gotta understand that lose you don't get win without loss. And that losing is also a part of it, and losing is a wonderful teacher. I don't want to, don't get me wrong and get it twisted. I'm not over here saying, Oh, I want to lose, make me a loser. No, what I'm saying is that when losses hit me, what I've had to understand is learning how to lose, how to be a winner in the middle of my losing, to just play the word game, has been the difference. Because it's in the losses that I saw so many things that I needed to correct. It's in the losses that I got my resolve together that I determined that I'm not coming back this way again. It's when I'm bloodied on the field, having been defeated by something, that I gained strength and power. In the actual weakness, I found strength. So I just wanted to contextualize winning because I think we can romanticize it quite a bit, uh, especially in our culture.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean, like, for me, that's

Gratitude Turns Pain Into Progress

SPEAKER_00

drop the mic. That's it. We're all above ground, right? We have breath in our in our lungs, right? We're able to um, I get to spend time with with you, right? I I don't know too many people like you in my life. I think that's an honor and privilege. Um yeah, I think there's so many things to celebrate. I think winning is about being thankful. It's about gratitude, it's about recognizing that I'm not a victim. Everything that's happening is happening for me, not to me. Right? And I've learned more from my mistakes than I have from my successors, right? But um, yeah, in this season of life, um winning isn't, for me personally, it's not well, I would like a million dollars. It's not having a million dollars. There's so many things that um I find more more valuable, right? The fact that someone actually cares what I have to say, right? And I promise you, when I was going through certain things that have given me insight and that that inform how I how I govern myself, those things did not feel like winning. But now that I am a little bit removed from those scenarios, I can absolutely indeed say that even in my pain, I was winning because I am still above ground. I still have value to offer, right? And I'm still in a in a in a space where I can receive, right? Life is about give and take. Give and take. And I am in a posture to give as well as receive. That is what winning is to me.

SPEAKER_01

The cycle of giving and receiving ties into winning. Wow. Yeah, because we're giving of ourselves and we're receiving, and literally, you have to be able to receive to give too. And and conversely, by giving, you do receive. That's right. Right. And so sometimes it it always amazes me. Somebody in a more difficult scenario than I am, facing bigger challenges than I've faced. And to your point, they have gratitude, they're they're powered by gratitude, and they come off as more of a winner than I am.

The Research Behind Thankfulness

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It's all about mindset. There's a great book. You like books, mindset. I believe it's by Carol Dweck. Yeah, yeah, right. Uh-huh. Very powerful book. Um, but yeah, gratitude is. There's also another book called The Happiness Advantage.

SPEAKER_01

The Happiness Advantage.

SPEAKER_00

The Happiness Advantage. And it's written by uh Timothy, I can't think of his last name, but he was a Harvard student who went on to be a Harvard professor. And he did this study uh to kind of drill, you know, dive in to see why some Harvard students were super successful while others were not. And at the end of the day, the students that did the worst, they complained about how much work they had to do, right? How tough it was, right? And the students that did the best were thankful for the opportunity to be going to one of the best schools in the world. That was the main distinguishing factor between success, winning, and losing. The thankfulness of the opportunity. Gratitude.

SPEAKER_01

Gratitude, that is so powerful. And I feel like that's the message today because winners are usually grateful. They marshal and manipulate and they are steeped in gratitude. And you know, KG, gratitude is also linked to mental toughness. We don't often say that, but it's true. When somebody has gratitude, they're not easily pushed off the block. They actually sleep better, from what I understand. They make better choices. They're tougher, they're harder to get rid of. Because they're not looking for claps and likes, and they're not looking for external validation. They have an internal locus. They have gratefulness in them. And as you say, what do you do with somebody who's just happy to be in the sport or grateful to be alive today? And they're coming to you, coming at you from that perspective. There's nothing you can take away from them. Because that's not,

Kobe’s Standard And No Complacency

SPEAKER_01

they're winning on some internal energy, some internal focus. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I was, I was, I thought you're a sports guy. I was listening to something about Kobe. And and Kobe, he had this, he has a winning mentality, right? He had it since he was in middle school, high school. He said, when he got to the NBA, what he noticed was that so many individuals that that uh had arrived to the NBA, that's what they had considered success. They just simply wanted to get there. Right? That was their destination. Uh-huh. His destination was not just to get there, but to be one of the greatest ever. So he took that as an opportunity. Oh, you guys have arrived, and you're not gonna do any more work. Got you. I'm gonna do that much more work to solidify my winning mentality and status. Right? So it's it's not just the mindset, and I don't want to make Wednesday heavy, but this action that goes along with that, right? Don't rely on natural ability, even if you are winning in this particular moment. Are you the best winner that you can think of? Or are there levels to your to your to your winning? Don't be complacent.

SPEAKER_01

That's the thing, right? Don't be complacent. And winners are never complacent, they're always working. In sport, I see it. The elite, the elite athletes, they don't settle on a win. It's never enough, right? It's always about getting better. It's a process, it's a sharpening process. And I love it. I love the idea of the gratitude. You're grateful for the opportunity, but you're not sitting on it either. That's right. You're not sitting on it, and you're pushing yourself. So, I okay, so I'm gonna know

The 10 Gratitudes Before You Rise

SPEAKER_01

Wednesday. What I'm taking away is that I would be wise to wake up and count gratitude. Listen, one of the exercises we do with athletes and with performers and with anybody we work with is we say, and when you wake up in the morning, before you jump out of bed, on your hands or your feet, wherever you have digits, and as many as you got, count one thing that you're grateful for on every, or just let's put it this way, make it easier. Before you leave your bed, 10 things that you're grateful for. Say it to yourself before you leave your bed and watch how your mindset changes, how your day changes, and how your whole life shifts from being complaining or bitter or angry to finding ways to have joy or ways to feel fulfilled or to see opportunities or to have the perseverance not to give up, and that's winning. That's winning, yeah,

Identity, Tomorrow’s Theme, Closing

SPEAKER_01

yeah. And I'm gonna I'm gonna wrap us up today, KG, because we I think unpack winning pretty well today. That gratitude of winning, if nothing else, we can walk away today knowing that. Am I practicing gratitude? And how does that contribute to me being a winner? And I woke up a winner today because, as you said, we're above ground. That's right. Tomorrow is trust yourself thirsty, KG. So I'm inviting you back. Listen, we're too deep in now to turn back. Okay, we're too deep in now to turn back. So, for science, for soul, for success, this is With It All Wednesday. You've been listening to The Sweet Spot. I'm Dr. Derek Sweet. I'm with my guy, KG, who's with me all week. And I hope, sweet spotters, you're enjoying it. Now go out there and win. Go out there and win because that's your identity. All right now.
